Lincoln Park

Ride

WABA and our partners NOYS, Girls in Gear, Hill Family Biking, and Prime Ability Cycling invite you to join us for the Summer Vibes Teen Ride on Saturday, July 15, from 11 am – 1 pm starting and ending at Lincoln Park.

If you are a person age 14 through 18, this event is for you!

We will gather at Lincoln Park. Before the start of the ride, we will have the opportunity to learn from a Certified Bike Instructor. Before we start riding, everyone will be able to answer a couple key questions: What should you check before starting a ride? How can you bike safely on the road with other traffic? And more.

Then, we will head out from Lincoln Park and ride as a group to the Anacostia River Trail. This is a no drop ride, which means we’ll stick together and no rider will be left behind! We will take a break for water in Anacostia Park before heading back to Lincoln Park for food and drinks (ride route). At the end of the ride, we’d love to hear about your experience!  What did you like or dislike throughout the ride? What are your thoughts and visions regarding transportation in D.C.?

Throughout the program, we will have a chance to hear from staff at DC Vision Zero and from other community organizations. We will also discuss how to drive safely while sharing the road with bicyclists and other vulnerable road users.

You do not need to consider yourself  a “cyclist” to participate, but participants should be able to ride a bike for 30 minutes at a time. The total ride length is about 4 and a half miles. (If you do not know how to ride a bike and want to learn, you can learn how to ride at one of WABA’s learn-how-to-ride events. Sign up here: https://waba.org/fun/.)

If you would like to participate, but need a bike and/or helmet, we are able to provide them for you! Just make sure to note what you need in your registration form.

So we can get a headcount and keep you updated, register using the form below. Every participant needs to sign a consent form. If you are under 18 years old, you must have a parent or guardian complete the youth consent form. If you are 18 years old, you must complete the adult consent form.  We will be capping the event at 25 participants. Sign ups are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Questions? Please get in touch with Sarah Haedrich at sarah.haedrich@waba.org. We hope to see you on July 15th!
