Bikes for the World

The central mission is to collect unwanted bicycles and related material in the United States and deliver it at low cost to community development programs assisting the poor in developing countries or in the Washington DC metropolitan area.  As much as possible, Bikes for the World uses the donated bicycles to help set-up self-sustaining bicycle repair operations which can make enough money to pay the shipping costs for subsequent container shipments of donated bicycles.

If you cannot find a convenient collection site or date, don't despair.  Bicycles may also be dropped off with a suggested $10 per bike donation for Bikes for the World at participating bicycle retailers.  (We will also accept individual drop-offs at volunteer homes in Arlington, Fairfax, Bethesda, Silver Spring, Takoma Park, and Hagerstown MD.  Write info AT bikesfortheworld.org for more info and state where you are/where you can bring a bike.)
