Promote Pace Car

Promote the DC Neighborhood Pace Car!

Businesses, churches, community centers, schools, libraries, organizations are ALL invited to promote the DC Neighborhood Pace Car program, and there is a variety of easy ways to do it!

Effective Program for Neighborhood Traffic Safety

DDOT, with the assistance of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, is proud to announce their newest street safety initiative—the DC Neighborhood Pace Car program. The concept of the program is simple, addressing head-on the very component that creates the elements of risk and danger on our city streets: vehicles moving too fast to allow for safe and courteous interaction with other road users.

Everyone likes to think they’re a “safe” driver. But the fact is, no matter how carefully some might drive, each mile per hour above the posted speed limit heightens the risk and the level of discomfort for all other road users. Let’s return our city streets to a mode of behavior that allows time for safety!

Drivers who want to participate sign a pledge to drive courteously and within the posted speed limit on city streets, and are given an official DC Pace Car bumper sticker to display on their vehicles. The sticker represents to other drivers not only a vehicle traveling at the speed limit, but it also represents a resident who cares about traffic safety in our neighborhoods.

The DC Neighborhood Pace Car program launched in Ward 3 in April 2007, and is expanding to other wards. Be a leader in yourneighborhood! Give yourself enough travel time so that you can contribute a sense of ease and courtesy to our streets! Stickers can be ordered at http://www.waba.org/education/motorist.php.
