The region’s largest celebration of getting to work on two wheels, Bike to Work Day is an annual event that celebrates those who ride a bicycle. Whether you commute to work by bike every single day or just want to give it a try for the first time this year, this event celebrates you! This is the one day each year that our regions recognizes bicycling as an everyday form of transportation.
Bike to Work Day has grown more than 10% per year in recent years as more people choose to get to work by bicycle. The event is managed by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, in partnership with WABA and other regional partners and sponsors. For information about the event, see the official Bike to Work Day website.
Bike to Work Day 2015 will be held on Friday, May 15th! Registration for Bike to Work Day will open in early March.
Last year in 2014, a record breaking 16,800+ people registered for Bike to Work Day, with 79 pit stops across the region in DC, Maryland and Virgina. Even though there was a lot of rain on the morning of the event, it was still a huge success in showing our region’s collective interest and support for bicycling a means of transportation for getting to work. This year, we hope to exceed last year’s registration number to show an increasing commitment to bicycling across our region.
